EGYPT froze the funds and bank accounts of several previous top officials and their families yesterday, as part of the country's anti-corruption campaign since the fall of former President Hosni Mubarak.
The figures included former speaker of the Shoura Council Safwat el-Sherif, former speaker of the People's Assembly Fathi Sorour, former presidential cabinet chief Zakaria Azmi and former housing minister Mohamed Ibrahim Suliman, along with their wives and minor children, official MENA news agency reported.
The Ministry of Justice ordered a travel ban on Sherif, Sorour and Azmi on March 31.

Investigations showed they had exploited their high positions and influence as part of the inner circle of the former president to accumulate enormous wealth, according to MENA.
A number of top officials, including ex-ministers of interior, tourism and housing, have been investigated, detained or faced trials over corruption allegations.
