Emirates Airline plane crash lands at Dubai airport; passengers safe

A plane of Dubai's state-owned Emirates Airline flying from Thiruvananthapuram, India, to Dubai crash landed at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday, local media reported.

According to Dubai daily Gulf News, all passengers have been "escorted to safety." Black smoke can be seen in footage of the crash site, which has been cordoned off.

A total of 275 passengers and crew members were on board flight EK52, said the government-run Dubai Media Office.

Emirates, on its Twitter account, confirmed that "an incident" happened at the Dubai Airport at 12:45 local time (0845 GMT).

Gulf News said there is currently no take-off or landing at the airport.

All departure flights from Dubai have been delayed until further notice, said the Dubai media office.

Earlier incidents at Dubai airport included the crash on Sept. 3, 2010, of a UPS cargo jet shortly after take-off from Dubai, killing two on board.

The other one happened on March 12, 2007, involving a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane at take-off, led to the injury of 14 passengers. The airport had to be closed off for eight hours.  Enditem
