Envoy Regrets Philippine Sex Tourism Remarks
A Philippine government spokesman says United States Ambassador Harry Thomas has apologized for his recent statement that 40 percent of male tourists visit the country for sex.
Raul Hernandez of the Department of Foreign Affairs says Thomas sent a mobile phone text message on Friday to Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario "expressing regret" for his remarks and noting he "should not have used the 40 percent statistic without the ability to back it up." The US Embassy confirmed yesterday that Thomas had apologized.
