Etihad Airways passenger jet lands safely after issuing mayday call

An Etihad Airways plane has made an unplanned landing at Brisbane Airport after sending a mayday call, Australian local media reported today.

The Etihad Airbus A330 carrying 175 passengers took off from Brisbane's international airport short after 2:00pm local time today.

The passenger jet, which was en route to Singapore, returned safely to the airport at around 2:30pm local time due to a " flight-deck instrument failure", an Etihad Airways spokesman said.

"The flight crew followed all standard operational procedures, declared an emergency and made a precautionary landing," the spokesman said.

"The aircraft landed without incident and all passengers and crew are safe. Passengers are being rebooked to continue their journey on alternate carrier", the spokesman added.
