FAA lifts ban on US flights to Tel Aviv
THE Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) lifted a ban on US flights to an airport in Israel's western port city of Tel Aviv late Wednesday, which had been imposed over security concerns.
"The FAA has lifted its restrictions on US airline flights into and out of Israel's Ben Gurion Airport by canceling a Notice to Airmen it renewed earlier today," the agency said in a statement.
The decision was made after the FAA worked with its U.S. government counterparts to assess the security situation and "carefully reviewed both significant new information and measures the government of Israel is taking to mitigate potential risks to civil aviation," according to the statement.
The FAA instituted a 24-hour flight prohibition on Tuesday after a rocket landed approximately one mile from the airport.
The US State Department has been warning people to defer nonessential travel to Israel since early February this year due to safety concern in Gaza.
