Flights suspended at Cypriot airport for two hours due to suspected box

CYPRIOT authorities evacuated the eastern Mediterranean island's primary international airport at Larnaca and suspended flights for almost two hours on Saturday after the spotting of a suspect box in the departures area.

A police spokesman said explosives disposal experts examined the object, which looked like a shoe box using a robot and found out that it contained a small flight pillow.

"The box was found at the check-in section near a booth used by an Israeli airliner. Authorities treated the incident as a serious one and applied an emergency plan," the spokesman said.

The suspect object was spotted at 7:15 p.m. local time.

Airport security evacuated the entire departures floor in a matter of minutes as disposal experts arrived.

"There was no panic and the airport is now functioning normally," the police spokesman said.
