French PM hails arrest of suspect, warns extremely high terror risk
FRENCH Prime Minister Manuel Valls on Saturday called the arrest of the Paris terror attacks suspect "an important step" to combat terrorists but warned that terror risks remained extremely high.
"It's an important step in the fight against terrorism, but the threat remains very high, as high or perhaps higher than what we have known before November 13 (attacks)," Valls told I Tele news channel.
"Other networks, other cells, other individuals, in France and in Europe, are organizing to prepare new attacks," he warned, urging closer European and international cooperation to combat terrorist groups.
Salah Abdeslam, the only surviving suspect of Paris attacks which left 130 victims four months ago, was arrested on Friday during a counter-terrorism raid in Molenbeek, in the Belgian capital city of Brussels. He was shot in the leg during his capture.
Abdeslam was charged with "participation in terrorist murder," according to a Belgian prosecutor.
The 26-year old Belgian-born man was believed to had rent a car in the Brussels area, suspected to be used by the attackers who stormed restaurants, theater hall and soccer stadium on Nov. 13.
