Global temperature reaches record high in August

LAST month was the hottest since record keeping began in 1880, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said in its monthly report.
The combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for August 2015 was 0.88 degrees Celsius above the 20th century average of 15.6 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record set in 2014 by 0.09 degrees Celsius, according to the NOAA report released this week.
The month also tied with January 2007 as the third warmest monthly highest departure from average for any month in the 136-year record, it said.
During the month, record warmth was observed across South America and parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa. South America, Europe, and Africa experienced their warmest August average temperature since 1910.
Other months that have broken its monthly temperature record in 2015 were February, March, May, June, July, and August, said the report.
Besides, the combined global average land and ocean surface temperatures for January through August and June through August were also record warm.
