Helicopter crashes into Seoul high-rise, killing 2

A South Korean helicopter today crashed into an high-rise apartment in Seoul's populous Gangnam district, leaving two pilots dead, firefighters said.

The helicopter, which belonged to LG Electronics Inc. plunged into the upper part of a 38-storey apartment building and fell to the ground at around 8:55 am local time, killing the captain and the vice captain on board, the Yonhap news agency reported.

Local authorities said that no one inside the apartment was hurt as most of them were evacuated.

"It seemed that the helicopter lost visibility due to the thick fog," Yonhap quoted an official at the National Emergency Management Agency as saying. Police and firefighters are deployed to the site of the accident to clear the wreckage of the helicopter and evacuate residents. The crash damaged the outer wall of the 21st to 27th floors of the building.

Official said the cause of this accident is still under investigation.
