Improper Construction in Genoa
ITALY'S leader says improper construction in flood plains was partly to blame for devastating floods that have killed at least six people in the port city of Genoa.
Premier Silvio Berlusconi said in a statement yesterday "it is evident that there was construction in areas where there shouldn't have been." He said officials will look for ways to correct the problem.
Torrential rains lashed Genoa and Italy's western coastline again on Friday, triggering flash floods that killed at least six people as raging water uprooted trees and swept cars and furniture through the streets.
Flights were also canceled.
