Indian police hunt man suspected of raping Japanese student

POLICE are searching for a man suspected of raping a Japanese student in northwest India.

Police inspector general D.C. Jain says the 20-year-old student met the suspect while sightseeing Sunday in the north Indian tourist city of Jaipur, where he had offered to act as her tour guide. Jain says the man later took the woman on his motorcycle to a farming village outside the city in Rajasthan state, where he threatened her with violence and then raped her on the side of the road before leaving her.

Villagers who heard the woman crying helped her contact police. Jain said Monday that a medical examination confirmed the woman had been raped. Police are searching for a suspect in his 20s.
