Injuries reported after police helicopter crashes into Scottish pub

A police helicopter crashed late yesterday into the roof of a pub in Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, leaving multiple people injured, the Sky news reported.

The incident occurred at 10:25 pm local time (2225 GMT) in downtown Glasgow, with some injuries and unconscious people. The injured were being sent to the nearest hospital by ambulances, and the roads were blocked off near the city center, said the report.

There was no fire or explosion after the police chopper with two police officers and a civilian pilot aboard dropped from a great height at fast speed. As of press time, there was no report of how many were injured or any fatalities.

The Glasgow Royal Infirmary said nine people were being treated at the hospital.

The SP99 helicopter fuselage was embedded into the roof of the packed pub, where a local band was performing on a busy Friday night. All the band members were confirmed safe after the incident.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said on his Twitter account, "My thoughts are with everyone affected by the helicopter crash in Glasgow - and the emergency services working tonight."

Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond said that he was concerned about everyone involved, noting "the emergency services were on the scene within minutes, the rescue efforts are still in full operation and the Scottish Government's resilience operation is now mobilized."

"However given an incident of this scale we must all prepare ourselves for the likelihood of fatalities." he added.

Fifteen fire engines were at the scene along with specialist services, according to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Emergency services said search and rescue dogs were assisting police and firefighters to find whether anyone was trapped in the venue.
