Iran releases Canadian journalist on bail: report
IRAN released yesterday an Iranian-Canadian journalist arrested during post-election unrest in June on bail, local ILNA news agency reported.
"Maziar Bahari was freed on three billion rials (300,000 USD) bail from Evin prison yesterday evening," ILNA said, quoting Tehran's prosecution office as saying.
Bahari was arrested in June and charged with propagating against the regime, disrupting public order by sending false reports about the election through foreign media and participating in illegal gatherings, the report said.
The report did not say whether Bahari could leave Iran.
Bahari is an Iranian-born Canadian journalist who worked for Newsweek magazine.
After the disputed June 12 presidential election, Iran has been the scene of a series of protests and unrests.
According to Press TV, Iran's police have arrested 457 people in the post-election violence which has left at least 20 dead and hundreds of others injured.
Iran has been charging foreign media of making false reports about the election and accusing foreign countries of interfering in the country's domestic affairs through media.
