Japan, US reaffirm post-quake cooperation

VISITING US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met today with her Japanese counterpart Takeaki Matsumoto, reaffirming Japan-US cooperation in post-quake reconstruction efforts.
Clinton said the United States will continue to provide every possible support for Japan to solve the nuke crisis in the crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant, and will pledge firm US disaster relief.
Matsumoto replied by saying Japan will strive to bring the nuclear plant under control and welcomed US aid.
The secretary of state, who arrived in Tokyo earlier in the day for a half-day visit, will also meet Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan, and will attend a tea party hosted by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko before winding up her third visit to Japan as secretary of state.
Washington has mobilized more than 20,000 personnel, around 160 aircraft and 20 vessels from the US military for relief activities after the March 11 quake and tsunami.
