Japan lifts tsunami warning after 6.9-magnitude offshore quake
JAPAN'S Meteorological Agency (JMA) has lifted a tsunami warning it issued after a strong 6.9- magnitude earthquake hit off northeastern Japan on Tuesday.
The quake, which occurred at 8:06am local time (2306 GMT Monday), was centered 210 km in the Pacific Ocean east of Miyagi Prefecture, with a depth of around 10 km.
The JMA issued an advisory against a 1-meter tsunami for Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan. Iwate's Kuji port has observed a tidal wave of about 20 cm and the JMA later removed the tsunami warning.
No casualties have been reported so far.
