Japan says man beheaded likely to be Goto, issues safety warning

JAPANESE Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference that the man beheaded by the Islamic State militants showed in a video posted on-line early today is highly likely to be Japanese hostage Kenji Goto, local media reported. "There is a high possibility that the video is from the IS, and the hostage beheaded is likely to be Kenji Goto,"Suga was quoted by Japan's national broadcaster NHK.

The top government spokesman also released an alert, warning overseas Japanese nationals of safety hazards.

According to Suga, there have been no direct talks between Japan and IS since the outbreak of hostage crisis. He stressed that the Japanese government would never surrender to terrorists and will work with international community to fight against terrorism.

The latest video showed a hooded IS militant with a knife standing beside a man believed to be 47-year-old Goto, who kneels in an orange jumpsuit. The following footage showed a head placed on a body.

The militant said "Abe, because of your reckless decision to take part in an unwinnable war, this knife will not only slaughter Kenji, but it will also carry on and cause carnage wherever your people are found."
