Japan 'will have no future' if tax hike plan fails: PM

JAPANESE Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda re-emphasized that Japan "will have no future" if the tax hiking and social security reforming bills won't pass.

Noda made a speech at the ruling party Democratic Party of Japan's annual convention held today, vowing to make every effort to reduce the number of lawmakers and cut the salaries of bureaucrats as a precondition for the tax hike plan.

To boost the economy and to ensure employment will be the primary tasks of recovering from the March 11th earthquake and tsunami disasters, Noda said in the speech.

Noda has just finished his first Cabinet reshuffle last Friday after taking office aiming to achieve the tax hike plan which is carrying on slowly facing big obstacles.

The annual 150-day ordinary Diet session for this year is scheduled to be convened on January 24.
