Japan withdraws

TOKYO will end its refueling mission in support of United States-led operations in Afghanistan when its mandate expires in January, Japan's defence minister said yesterday. Next month US President Barack Obama will visit Japan for the first time since Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's Democratic Party took power pledging to forge a more independent diplomatic stance.
