Japanese Europe-based stars to feature in charity game

JAPAN Football Association said today that eight Europe-based Japanese players have confirmed to feature in a charity game against a J-League select side next Tuesday.

The charity match scheduled on March 29 at Osaka's Nagai Stadium is not an "A-level" international game designated by FIFA. But most European clubs showed their will of understanding and support by agreeing to release them.

The eight Europe-base players are goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima (Lierse SK), defenders Nagatomo(Inter Milan), Tomoaki Makino (Cologne) and Maya Yoshida (VVV Venlo), midfielders Yuki Abe (Leicester City) and Makoto Hasebe (Wolfsburg), and forwards Daisuke Matsui (Grenoble) and Akihiro Ienaga (Mallorca).

Four other Japanese players in European clubs, Keisuke Honda (CSKA Moscow), Hajime Hosogai (Augsburg), Shinji Okazaki (Stuttgart) and Atsuto Uchida (Schalke 04), are also expected to be released in due time.

The JFA has also been received calls of support from the international soccer community since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that have been devastating Japan.
