Julie Andrews plans London stage comeback in 2010

JULIE Andrews, famous for her roles in musical classics "The Sound of Music" and "Mary Poppins," will return to the British stage in 2010 for the first time in 30 years for a one-off performance.

Organizers said yesterday that the 74-year-old, who has hardly sung since an operation in 1997 to remove non-cancerous nodules from her throat, would perform at the O2 Arena in London on May 8.
The concert would feature music from her best known stage and screen performances as well as a live narration of "Simeon's Gift," a children's story written by Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton.
"To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment -- it is where it all began for me, and I am so excited to be able to share a brand new work with audiences," Andrews said in a statement. Tickets to the show go on sale today.
