Kan fails in grand coalition bid
JAPAN tried and failed yesterday to form a crisis Cabinet to tackle an epic natural disaster and end a political divide.
Prime Minister Naoto Kan had planned to sound out the opposition about joining a grand coalition to handle reconstruction policy after the quake, tsunami and ongoing nuclear crisis, but LDP head Sadakazu Tanigaki rejected the idea out of hand.
