Kidnapped US tourists are released
A SENIOR security official says two female American tourists and their Egyptian guide have been freed hours after they were abducted at gunpoint near St Catherine's Monastery in the Sinai Peninsula yesterday.
South Sinai Police Chief Major General Mohammed Naguib said they were released after negotiations with Bedouin tribesmen.
The three were seized yesterday from a minivan that was returning them from the monastery to the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh. Naguib said earlier the kidnappers wanted the release of fellow tribesmen who were arrested.
Also yesterday, four gunmen stopped the vehicle of two Italians working for a food factory in Suez and robbed them. They let the Italians go.
