Kim has 'luxury trains'
NORTH Korean leader Kim Jong Il - known for shunning air travel - has six luxurious special trains equipped with conference rooms, bedrooms and high-tech communication facilities, a Seoul newspaper reported yesterday.
There are 19 stations across North Korea exclusively for Kim's trains, which have a total of some 90 carriages, according to the mass-circulation Chosun Ilbo, citing an analysis by South Korean and United States intelligence authorities.
The South Korean National Intelligence Service and the US military command in Seoul said they couldn't confirm the report.
It said each train was equipped with armor and had conference rooms, reception halls, bedrooms, wall-mounted TVs and equipment like satellite phones, enabling the leader to be informed on major issues and issue orders while traveling.
To cope with terrorism, Kim's train traveled with two other trains, with the first one running ahead to check the safety of lines while the second one carried agents and followed, the paper said.
