Leading UN post for Antigua's Ashe
THE next president of the UN General Assembly, veteran diplomat John Ashe from the tiny Caribbean island nation of Antigua and Barbuda, urged the world's nations Friday to take bold action to overcome poverty and ensure the survival of the planet.
Ashe, 59, addressed the 193-member world body minutes after he was elected by acclamation to preside over the 68th session of the General Assembly, which starts in September.
