M5.6 quake jolts Tokyo metropolitan area in Japan

A quake measured at 5.6 magnitude rocked the metropolitan area of Japan's capital city of Tokyo, with strong tremor felt in the entire vicinity area, according to Japan's Meteorological Agency.

The quake took place at around 14:28 local time Monday and was registered at lower 5 at Japan's seismic scale of 7 in parts of Ibaraki and at 4 at Tokyo metropolitan area.

The epicenter was initially detected at 36.1 degrees north latitude and 139.6 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 50 km.

The quake shortly suspended subway and shinkansen bullet train services in the area.

There were no immediate reports on damage and injuries. No tsunami warning was issued.
