Malfunction causes British Airways flight heading for Beijing to land in Russia

A BRITISH Airways flight from London to Beijing made an emergency landing in Siberia this morning due to a malfunction, Russian authorities announced.

Flight BA39 was carrying 289 people, including eight crew members, and no one was hurt in the incident. The aircraft was scheduled to arrive at Beijing Capital Airport at 9:30am, but landed instead in the city of Irkutsk at 9:41am, Xinhua news agency reported.

Passengers were sent to two local hotels. The airline said technicians would be sent to examine the plane. When passengers would arrive in Beijing was not announced.
