Manila's Arroyo stops short of saying to step down in 2010
PHILIPPINE President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said in her last policy speech today that she had never expressed a desire for another term in office.
Arroyo, 62, also said there was a good chance that peace talks with Muslim and leftist rebels may prosper after decades of stop-start negotiations.
"I have never expressed the desire to extend myself beyond my term," said Arroyo, who is not eligible under current law to run for another.
