Merkel in running for Nobel Prize
CHANCELLOR Angela Merkel’s response to Europe’s refugee crisis could win her this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, according to Germany’s influential Bild newspaper.
Ahead of the Nobel Prize season, it said 61-year-old Merkel had “a good chance,” partly over her open-door policy on refugees.
The first Nobel to be announced by the jury in Stockholm will be the medicine prize on Monday.
But most of the build-up traditionally swirls around who will take home the literature and peace prizes.
A total of 276 nominations have been submitted for the peace prize but the Nobel Institute never discloses the list.
