More than 10 injured after mini tornado hits Sydney shopping center

More than 10 people have been injured after a mini tornado hit a shopping center, library and train station in Sydney's north, local media reported today.

Emergency services were called to the Westfield shopping center in Hornsby just before 3:00pm local time on Monday following reports that the roof of the cinema had collapsed in rough weather.

The shopping center has been evacuated for safety reason and Fire and Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW) crew searched the building.

The FRNSW has confirmed that no one was trapped under the collapsed ceiling following a thorough search.

The first arriving crews reported storm damage and several people with injuries from broken glass and debris, the FRNSW said.

According to local media reports, six patients were treated at the shopping center for minor injuries, including a 50-year-old woman who was hit in the face by glass.

Paramedics are treating six other patients after the storm hit the Hornsby library and train station near the shopping center.
