When piglets fly...

A semitrailer carrying 2,200 piglets overturned Monday on a freeway in Ohio, US,  forcing road closures as officials attempted to corral the animals, according to a report on BuzzFeed.

The crash occurred around 7 p.m. local time Monday on U.S. Route 35 near Xenia, WCPO reported and police said the driver of the truck lost control and veered into a guardrail. The driver was unharmed, but the only passenger was injured and transported to a nearby hospital, the report said.

As many as 500 young pigs were also killed in the crash. About 1,500 piglets were captured, while a couple hundred more were still on the loose in the forested area surrounding the highway.

“There’s quite a few pigs that got out and ran from the accident. They’re in the woods. I don’t think we’ll ever get all of them, I really, really don’t. We’ll try as hard as we can to retrieve all of them, but we probably won’t retrieve all of them,” Xenia Township Fire Chief Dean Fox reportedly said.
