Moscow metro on fire as result of short circuit
A fire broke out between two metro stations in Moscow this morning, causing no injuries, emergency authorities said.
The fire was caused by a short circuit in the tunnel between the Tulskaya and Serpukhovskaya stations of the Moscow gray line, the Emergency Situations Ministry told local media.
Thick smoke appeared in the hall and underground passage of the Serpukhovskaya station, which was temporarily closed following the incident
According to the ministry, the fire was put out before the arrival of the firemen. There was no evacuation of passengers and the metro trains were running as normal.
The Moscow metro system has been operating for 78 years. In June 2013, a fire broke out in a red line station, injuring 45 people and causing 4,500 commuters to be evacuated.
