Myanmar imports about 85 pct of western medicines from neighboring countries last yea

Myanmar has imported about 85 percent of western medicines from its neighbors and other countries in 2014, according to Myanmar Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Entrepreneurs Association (MPMEEA) on Saturday.
Myanmar's imported percentage of western medicine products would remain unchanged this year, the association said.
Over 50 percent of imports come from India that remains a main medicine exporter to Myanmar, followed by Thailand and China.
About 98 percent of medical equipment is also imported from big foreign countries such as the United States, European countries and Japan.
Finding more business opportunities as well as promoting public awareness, the association will organize the three-day second health expo at Tatmadaw Convention Centre in Yangon from Feb. 5 to 7, displaying western medicine, hospital and medical equipment and local and foreign health care services.
The event will enable people to understand state-of-the-art medical technology and exchange knowledge through a network of medicine importers.
With over 100 booths, more than 40 pharmaceutical distributors will display their products, expecting more than 5,000 visitors to the fair.
