NY judge grants bail for former IMF chief

A New York Judge granted bail for US$1 million for former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dominique Strauss-Kahn yesterday.

New York State Supreme Court Judge Micheal Obus said that the former IMF chief can be released on US$1 million bail, and placed under 24-hour home detention with electronic monitoring.

Defense lawyer William Taylor has proposed bail of US$1 million for Strauss-Kahn. "He is an honorable man. He will appear in court," he told a Manhattan judge during a new bail hearing for Strauss-Kahn.

The prosecutor John McConell sought to persuade the judge to deny bail. He said in the courtroom that Strauss-Kahn has "the personal, political and financial means to flee. He is an international figure who truly has global influence."
