NZ police say gunman dies, siege ends
POLICE say a New Zealand gunman has been found dead after a tense two-day shooting spree.
Superintendent Sam Hoyle says former army reservist Jan Molenaar was found dead today in the master bedroom of his house in the North Island city of Napier.
Hoyle says that police were not immediately able to say how the 51-year-old died. He says the house is still dangerous and needs to be cleared by explosives specialists.
Part of the city of 40,000 has been shut down since the standoff began Thursday morning when Molenaar fired shots from an automatic rifle at police who were searching the house for cannabis.
One officer was killed and two others were seriously wounded, along with a bystander who was shot.
