New ambassador collapses in Tokyo
JAPAN'S new envoy to China is in hospital after collapsing in Tokyo one day after his formal appointment.
A government spokesman said Ambassador Shinichi Nishimiya was found on the street near his home yesterday. Officials denied any signs of crime, but no other details were known.
Nishimiya was appointed to replace Uichiro Niwa, Japan's first China envoy from the private sector. Niwa had been criticized as not tough enough in the row over the Diaoyu Islands.
The spokesman refused to discuss whether the incident might affect Japan-China relations.
