New analysis of radar data of MH370 is a credible new lead: Australian PM
New analysis of radar data on the flight path of MH370 is a credible new lead and will be thoroughly investigated today, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbot confirmed following the update from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.
The search area for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has been updated after the new credible lead was provided to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
AMSA confirmed that today's search will shift to an area 1,100 kilometers to the northeast of the current search area based on updated advice provided by the international investigation team in Malaysia.
"I have been briefed on new analysis of radar data on the flight path of MH370 and the consequent shift in the search area announced by AMSA today," Abbott said.
"This is a credible new lead and will be thoroughly investigated today. Ten aircraft, six vessels and satellites will focus on the new search area," he added.
In addition, Abbott emphasized that leading experts from around the world are working to solve this baffling mystery.
"Civilian and military personnel from Australia, the United States, New Zealand, China, Japan and South Korea have been working round the clock in very difficult conditions. We should all be very proud of their efforts," he said.
Australia will continue to work closely with the Malaysian and Chinese governments and with all its international partners to locate MH370 and find answers to what happened to it, the prime minister said.
