No one hurt after Madrid car bomb

A CAR bomb exploded near a Madrid convention center today following a telephone warning claiming to be from Basque rebels ETA and no one was hurt, police and emergency services said.

The bomb, in the Campo de las Naciones neighbourhood, exploded at about 9am local time (0800 GMT) and broke windows, a police spokesman said. Also nearby is a building occupied by infrastructure group Ferrovial.

The blast, roughly an hour after the telephone warning and after police had cordoned off the area, came after Spain's Supreme Court late yesterday banned Basque nationalist parties from participating in March's regional elections in the Basque Country, because of links to ETA.
