Norwegian orders 122 Boeing 737, 100 Airbus A320

LOW-COST airline Norwegian announced today it had ordered 122 Boeing 737s and 100 Airbus A320neos for 127 billion kroner (16.6 billion euros, US$21.6 billion) in what it described as a landmark deal.

"The order is the largest ever in European aviation history and marks a major milestone in the company's 10 year history," said chief executive Bjoern Kjos.

"Norwegian has now reached a size where we will benefit from having two suppliers, both in terms of ensuring adequate flight capacity, flexibility and competition between two manufacturers," he added.

The Boeings ordered were split between 100 737 MAX8s and 22 next-generation 737-800s, said the company.

The order included additional purchase rights for 150 aircraft from both manufacturers, the statement added: 100 more Boeing 737 MAX8s and 50 more Airbus A320neos.--AFP
