Obama arrives in France for NATO summit

US President Barack Obama arrived in France today for a NATO summit where he will seek backing for his new strategy in the war in Afghanistan.

Obama is due to meet French President Nicolas Sarkozy and hold a US-style town hall meeting with French and German youths before crossing the nearby border for talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The NATO leaders' summit starts with a working dinner in the German city of Baden Baden at 8:15pm.

Obama flew in from London after attending the Group of 20 summit at which leaders agreed a deal to combat the global economic crisis.
