Obama nominates new administration officials

US President Barack Obama on Friday nominated San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to replace Shaun Donovan as the next Housing secretary.

He also nominated Donovan to run the Office of Management and Budget, taking over from Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who has been asked to act as the next Health secretary. The nominations will have to be assessed by the Senate.

"I am absolutely confident these two individuals are going to do a great job because they have done a great job with everything they have done in the past," Obama said at a ceremony in White House on Friday.

Castro, a 39-year-old Hispanic, is widely talked about as possible Democratic vice presidential candidates in 2016. Obama hailed him as a leader in housing and economic development and spoke highly of his role in revitalizing San Antonio's downtown and booming private sector.
