One dead, two wounded in second Copenhagen shooting: police

ONE person was shot in the head and two policemen were shot in the arm and leg in central Copenhagen, police said in a statement early Sunday.

The person shot in the head later was confirmed dead by local police.

It was not confirmed if the incident was related to Saturday's deadly shooting at a cultural centre in Copenhagen where a debate on Islam and free speech was being held.

"We cannot say anything about the condition of the injured yet," Copenhagen police said.

"The perpetrator fled on foot," it said.

The shooting took place in Krystalgade, a street that is home to Copenhagen's main synagogue.

The nearby Noerreport train station, the country's busiest, was evacuated and trains were not stopping there, Danish news agency Ritzau reported, quoting train operator DSB.

As a manhunt was underway in central Copenhagen, media described "massive police action" between the station and the Botanical Garden, and a helicopter was heard overhead outside AFP's office.

"Police are struggling with many drunk people in the area, which is close to many Copenhagen pubs and nightclubs," the Berlingske newspaper said on its website.

The Danish Emergency Management Agency urged people in central Copenhagen to text "I'm okay" to their families in a post on its Twitter account.
