One pilot killed in Sri Lanka jets clash

ONE pilot died, another survived after two Sri Lankan air force jets collided this morning, hospital sources told local media.

Local media said earlier that the two pilots manning the two Kfir jets had ejected from their planes at the time of collision were safe.

A military spokesman said information regarding civilian casualties have not been reported yet.
Hospital sources said two ambulance vehicles have been sent to the location.

The two Kfir jets clashed over Warana area in the western provincial Gampaha district, near capital Colombo, while on a training exercise in connection with the air force's 60th anniversary celebrations, which are to begin tomorrow.

The Israeli built Kfirs played a key role in Sri Lanka's successful military battle against the Tamil Tiger rebels.
