Over 10 people injured in 5-vehicle pileup in western Japan
MORE than 10 people were injured today in an accident involving five vehicles in Shiga Prefecture in western Japan, local press reported.
The accident occurred at around 1:30 pm local time when five vehicles including a heavy lorry and cars collided with each other on the Meishin Expressway in Otsu City of the prefecture, according to the country's public broadcaster Nippon Hoso Kyokai ( NHK).
The report said the injured were carried to hospitals and two of them are in serious condition.
Local police closed the west bound lanes on the motorway between Otsu City and Kyoto City after the crash, and its officers are investigating the cause of the accident.
