Peaceful end for woman born in 1899
THE world’s oldest person died at her home in the United States on Wednesday at the age of 116.
Jeralean Talley, who kept up her bowling hobby until the ripe-old age of 104, died in Inkster, Michigan, the Detroit Free Press reported.
The deeply religious Talley was born in the southern US state of Georgia at the tail end of the 19th century on May 23, 1899.
“Just remember her as being a very beautiful, forgiving person,” said her daughter Thelma Holloway, 77.
“She went away peacefully,” Holloway said.
Talley is survived by her daughter and three generations of grandchildren. Her husband of 52 years, Alfred, died in 1988 aged 95, the report said.
On Talley’s death, the title of world’s oldest person was passed to fellow American Susannah Mushatt Jones, who was born July 6, 1899 and lives in Brooklyn, New York.
