Pedophile working in Beijing schools after fleeing UK gets 12 years for sex offences
A man who was extradited to the UK from China has been jailed for 12 years for historical sex offences, BBC news reported.
Neil Robinson, 47, formerly of Staines in Surrey, admitted three counts of sex with a girl under 13 and three indecent assaults at a previous hearing at Guildford Crown Court. He also received concurrent jail terms for the assaults and 26 counts of taking and making indecent images, the report said.
Robinson had pleaded guilty to all offences, court officials said.
He was ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely, was given a sex offence prevention order for life, and disqualified from working with children indefinitely. The offences took place between 1999 and 2002.
After the hearing, Surrey Police said Robinson had been wanted by police for more than 10 years after fleeing the UK in 2002, BBC news reported.
A Crimewatch appeal in 2012 provided information that Robinson had been living and working in schools in Beijing. Robinson handed himself in to the Chinese authorities last April following international media coverage, the force reportedly said.
He was extradited in May and arrested by Surrey Police at Heathrow Airport.
Det Insp Becky Molyneux said: "Robinson is a highly dangerous sexual predator who put his vulnerable young victims through what must have been horrendous ordeals."
She added: "I hope the outcome from court today demonstrates that no matter where in the world offenders try to hide and escape from their past, we will use all available resources to bring them to justice."
The suspect was featured in the BBC's Crimewatch program September, 2012.
Several students at the Beijing World Youth Academy later told a Beijing website that they recognized Robinson as one of their former teachers.
A school spokesman said "there were no formal or informal complaints made against him" in his three years at the school before he left last May for "personal reasons."
The story shocked many of his former students who described Robinson as a jovial person who was generally well-liked. They told the Beijing Kids website that he was apparently married to a Chinese woman.
Robinson has a profile on the job hunting site NetworkESL.com, last updated in 2010, showing he majored in computer studies in the UK and had eight years of experience in China, the website said.
In online comments, many people urged parents to be more careful when choosing teachers for their children and urged authorities and educational institutes to take responsibility for checking teachers' backgrounds.
