People write well-wishing messages for Lee Kuan Yew

SINGAPORE'S former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew has weakened further, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said today.

Concerns have been mounting over his health these days, with many well-wishers visiting Singapore General Hospital with cards and gifts.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong joined the well-wishers for his ailing father at the hospital today. He also visited Tanjong Pagar Community Club late Saturday to thank local residents for their prayers and support.

Lee Kuan Yew, 91, has been in hospital since February 5 with severe pneumonia. His condition has worsened, the PMO said yesterday.

Lee co-founded the ruling People's Action Party and became the premier of the newly-born republic in 1965. He stepped down as prime minister in 1990.
