Philippines official missing after plane goes down
ABOUT 300 rescuers were searching for Philippines Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and his two pilots yesterday after their plane crashed into the sea on Saturday.
An aide of Robredo made a dramatic escape and was helping in the search.
The four-seat Piper Seneca took off on Saturday from central Cebu City and was 30 minutes into a flight to Robredo's hometown of Naga when one of the engines failed. The Filipino pilot and Nepali student co-pilot scrambled to land in Masbate Province but missed the runway by about 500 meters.
Robredo's police aide Jun Abrazado lost consciousness as the plane slammed into the water, but was rescued by fishermen.
Abrazado was helping from his hospital bed by describing how the plane went down and where it was at the time.
