Pilot whales stranded in New Zealand South Island

EIGHTY-TWO whales have been stranded on a beach near Farewell Spit at the top of New Zealand's South Island today.
The pilot whales have been beached at Puponga Point since about 2 pm today. One has already died.
About 100 people including Department of Conservation staff were helping keep the mammals cool, Radio New Zealand reported.
Attempts to refloat them will start tomorrow morning when the tide comes in.
In January, 24 pilot whales died after becoming stranded at Parengarenga Harbor in New Zealand's Far North.
