Plane crash kills 4 in US Texas
A FAMILY of four -- two adults and two children -- died in a small plane crash in the US state of Texas on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
A single-engine Piper PA-24 with four people aboard crashed into a wooded area adjacent to a pet store's parking lot near San Antonio as it was departing from a private runway, a spokesperson from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told the Houston Chronicle.
First responders arrived at the scene and found the plane engulfed in fire. Four victims, who were later identified as a family, were confirmed dead.
Local TV footage showed the wreckage mangled in a tree. Witnesses said the plane nose-dived down.
The cause of the crash remained unknown but an investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety and FAA is underway.
