Plane crashes in Laos, 44 people killed
Thailand's foreign ministry says an internal flight in neighboring Laos has killed all 44 people aboard.
Foreign ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee says the Thai Embassy in the Lao capital of Vientiane reported that a Lao Airlines flight from Vientiane to Pakse in southern Laos crashed at about 4 pm Lao time this afternoon.
Sek says there were 39 passengers, including five Thais, and five crew members aboard.
Xinhua news agency reporters have learned from various sources that the plane was carrying two Chinese passengers. The two Chinese passenger's English names are known but at this point the Consular Department of the Chinese Embassy in Laos has not been able to verify information with the airline's passenger manifest.
Calls to Lao government officials and airline offices seeking further details went unanswered.
